Evening Sermon: Strangers in the World

Scripture References: 1 Peter 2:11-25

From Series: "Stranger in the World"

There are many ways to answer the question, “Who are you?” We might speak in terms of our family, our race, where we are from, where we went to school, or our profession. Our answer reveals what we think is important in our life and determines the way that we live. But how does God want us to think about ourselves? What is a Christian’s self-identity? The letter of 1 Peter is a brief yet very clear summary of the identity of those who follow Jesus. It contains the instructions and encouragement Christians need to know who they are on the journey to heaven as they face suffering along the way. Again and again, Peter shows us the victory that Jesus accomplished through suffering. It was his suffering that recovers our identity and restores our purpose in this life, while securing an eternal living hope. We can take comfort knowing that our suffering identifies us as those who belong to God’s story.
