FALL SERMON SERIES

Sunday Worship Services @ 9am, 11am & 5:30pm

The Generosity of God

If you were asked to describe the character of God, what would you say? Most of us would begin by saying that God is loving, holy, righteous, and just. But what about generous? Generosity is the joyful, extravagant, sacrificial giving of one’s self for another. Sounds a lot like God, doesn’t it? The most generous act in the history of the world is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus on our behalf. True generosity, like this, is infectious: God gives himself to us and we give ourselves to him in return: joyfully, extravagantly, and sacrificially. That is the way the gospel works. But what does it look like in action? Join us as we look at 2 Corinthians 8-9 and discover how the generosity of God transforms us into generous people.

Evening Sermon: Strangers in the World

Scripture References: 1 Peter 2:11-25

From Series: "Stranger in the World"

There are many ways to answer the question, “Who are you?” We might speak in terms of our family, our race, where we are from, where we went to school, or our profession. Our answer reveals what we think is important in our life and determines the way that we live. But how does God want us to think about ourselves? What is a Christian’s self-identity? The letter of 1 Peter is a brief yet very clear summary of the identity of those who follow Jesus. It contains the instructions and encouragement Christians need to know who they are on the journey to heaven as they face suffering along the way. Again and again, Peter shows us the victory that Jesus accomplished through suffering. It was his suffering that recovers our identity and restores our purpose in this life, while securing an eternal living hope. We can take comfort knowing that our suffering identifies us as those who belong to God’s story.
