MORNING SERVICE SERMON SERIES

CONSIDER JESUS: THE LETTER TO THE HEBREWS

The letter to the Hebrews is different. We don’t know who wrote it, and there is nothing else quite like it in the New Testament. No other letter holds Jesus up to such close inspection nor reveals such profound insight into his power and glory. The whole letter is an invitation to consider Jesus: to consider who he is, what he has accomplished, and what he has to do with our lives today. As it turns out, who he is has everything to do with how we live today.  In fact, our world makes sense only when we stop to consider Jesus.

  • November 19 – Hebrews 3:7-4:13
  • November 26 – Hebrews 4:14-5:10
  • December 3 – Hebrews 5:11-6:20
  • December 10 – Hebrews 7:1-8:1
  • December 17 – Lesson & Carols

EVENING SERVICE SERMON SERIES

A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE: THE MYSTERY OF THE INCARNATION

Among the most profound claims in the Christian faith is that God, “was made man.”

Christians have long understood this claim as the teaching of the incarnation, that the God of heaven and earth took on flesh. Such a claim sounds miraculous, but can also seem bizarre, befuddling and captivating all at the same time. And yet it is this mysterious claim that the church celebrates each year during the Advent season. It is a claim that Christians should not only consider during the month of December, but one that our entire hope in the gospel is based on.

Over the course of three weeks leading up to Christmas we will be honing in on Philippians 2:5-11, seeking to grasp the magnitude of the incarnation, and how it shapes our own lives, faith and service of others.

Join us this season of Advent as we investigate this compelling mystery, which has captivated the world for the past two millennia!

  • November 26 – Philippians 2:5-7 – The Thrill of Hope
  • December 3 – Philippians 2:7-8 – The Weary World Rejoices
  • December 10 – Philippians 2:9-11 Fall On Your Knees!
  • December 17 – Lessons & Carols

RECENT SERMONS AND TALKS

Rev. Dr. John Yates III - March 19, 2023

Sermon: Crying for Justice When God is Silent

Scripture References: Psalms 10:1-18

From Series: "Songs of Sorrow and Hope"

How do I talk to God when I’m sad, angry or in despair? What do I say when I have no words? How do I pray when life is hard? These are questions we all wrestle with, and we often don’t know where to turn for help. Thankfully, the Bible isn’t silent on this matter. More than one third of the psalms are psalms of lament written in times of sorrow, sickness or fear. They are models for prayer that give voice to our pain, affirm the goodness of God and lead us ultimately to the suffering of Jesus for our salvation. Join us during the season of Lent as we learn to bring our heartache before God and to pray these songs of sorrow and hope.
