MORNING SERVICE SERMON SERIES

LIVING IN FEAR: GODLY FEAR IN AN ANXIOUS AGE

Fear is one of the strongest human emotions.  It is hard to handle and impossible to contain.  From global terrorism to national elections, we live in a world awash with fear leaving us anxious and unsettled.  But what if fear isn’t all bad?  What if it’s necessary for a full and joyful life?  What if fear really is “the beginning of wisdom,” as the Proverbs say?  During the season of Lent we will explore fear in all its facets as we consider what the Bible has to say and how we are meant to live in fear.

  • February 18 – Matthew 28:16-20
  • February 25 – Luke 1:39-56

The lyrics of these songs have provided some of the greatest comfort for God’s struggling people throughout the centuries. Join us as we lift our eyes to the Lord, our refuge, in all his greatness and discover the glorious certainties of his plan and purpose for his people.

RECENT SERMONS AND TALKS

Rev. Dr. John Yates III - January 29, 2024

Sermon: Known by Our Fruit

Scripture References: Luke 6:43-45

From Series: "Straight to the Heart"

Sometimes Jesus spoke in parables and sometimes he preached. While his parables can be hard to understand, his preaching is always clear, concise, and aimed straight at our hearts. Early in his ministry Jesus delivered a famous sermon to a crowd by the Sea of Galilee. In it he blessed the poor, pronounced woe on the rich, told us to love our enemies, stop judging others, bear good fruit, and build our house on the rock. It’s a heart-stopping sermon, and it’s all found in a single chapter of Luke. Join us this winter as we allow Jesus’s words in Luke 6 to challenge and encourage as we seek to follow him.
