James 1:27 reads, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” Scripture is clear that God’s heart is bent towards orphans. He cares for those who are abandoned and forgotten, and God’s people are called to partner in his priorities.
The Holy Trinity Family Ministry is gauging interest for a summer international trip to partner with Heart’s Cry Children’s Ministry. Heart’s Cry runs the only special needs orphanage—Casa Providencia—in Panama and it was founded by Raleigh couple Matt and Misty Hedspeth. This trip offers the opportunity for Holy Trinity parishioners to care for children who are largely forgotten and dismissed by society.
Participants will spend time at Casa Providencia—as well as other orphanages—caring for the children and assisting with specific work projects. There will also be time to explore the Panamanian culture to observe, for example, the Panama Canal and historic downtown districts.
The trip is likely to run either July 6-11 or July 13-18 with a cap of 16 congregants—with priority registration going to families who are active in our middle school and high school ministries. If you are interested, please attend an interest meeting on January 28 at 7:30pm in the Trinity House. Matt Desmarais and Caleb Burr will provide visuals to help you envision what it might look like as well as details about the week, logistics and costs. So, please bring your questions and explore this opportunity with us. Email Caleb at cburr@htcraleigh.org if you have any questions!
