Sermon Series: Jesus in His Own Words

Critics and scholars have written countless words about Jesus, making claims for who he is and what he accomplished. But what does Jesus have to say about himself? On seven different occasions in John’s gospel Jesus makes a stunning claim about himself, each one prefaced with the simple statement: “I am.” This spring we will explore these statements and the rich truths they reveal about him. Join us as we hear from Jesus in his own words.

From Series: "The Hidden Hand of God: The Story of Esther"

There’s nothing in the world more powerful than a good story. Nothing can stop it. No enemy can defeat it. Stories are exciting and suspenseful, they captivate the imagination and inspire the will. The book of Esther is no exception. Except that, the story of Esther doesn’t simply exist to entertain its reader or convey truth or even to recall history. No, Esther is a story that recounts God’s surprising preservation of his promise and his people when they are threatened with annihilation by a superpower. Through the story of Esther we discover the hidden hand of God working out deliverance for his people and showing again and again, that he is faithful and powerful to do what he has promised. Although the Lord is never named or mentioned, as the story unfolds his invisible presence is glaringly obvious. The conclusion of the matter can only be that God is always present even when circumstances say otherwise. For the people of God today, the story of Esther provides a confident reassurance and a divine comfort that our God is always present and never absent, even when it isn’t obvious.
